Sacramento, CA – December 16, 2008 — The California Sustainability Alliance, a market transformation program managed by Navigant Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: NCI), announced today that it has selected Thomas Properties Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: TPGI) as the second recipient of its Excellence in Sustainability Showcase Award.
The Sustainability Showcase was established to highlight the efforts of organizations in the State of California paving the way towards California’s sustainable future. Thomas Properties Group has distinguished itself as a leader by making sustainability a key element of the company’s business proposition, and applying green building considerations to all aspects of their business including development, investments, leasing and operations.
“Our company and its predecessor have been involved in developing environmentally sustainable projects for over twenty years,” said James Thomas, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Thomas Properties Group. “We are proud to be at the forefront of “greening” California’s commercial office space, and we greatly appreciate being recognized for our commitment to sustainability.”
A pioneer in sustainable real estate, Thomas Properties Group designed and built the California Environmental Protection Agency’s (Cal EPA) headquarters in Sacramento, the first LEED EB Platinum high rise building in the nation which also boasts an ENERGY STAR rating of 99. The award winning building was designed and constructed incorporating design and engineering principles that conserve both energy and natural resources. Because of the building’s efficient design, the State of California, the tenant of the Cal EPA building, estimates that it saves more than $1.4 million in operating costs annually.
Consistent with the company’s history of being a pioneer in sustainability, Thomas Properties Group has set the ambitious goal of greening its entire portfolio of existing properties – a total of thirty-five buildings with more than 15 million square feet of Class A office space nationwide.
“Market transformation starts with a handful of visionary organizations and individuals raising the bar,” explained Craig McDonald, a Managing Director with Navigant Consulting’s Energy Efficiency Group “Thomas Properties Group is among those organizations and is a distinguished leader in California’s green building efforts.”
Thomas Properties Group will be honored at The California Sustainability Alliance Showcase Awards Luncheon to be held in February 2009 in Sacramento, CA.
